Nutrition Services FAQs: Your Guide to Better Health Through Food At Fairfax Family Practice Centers (FFPC), we believe that food
At Fairfax Family Practice Centers (FFPC), our family medicine providers offer safe, effective, and personalized weight management care designed to help you reach and maintain your goals. Unlike many outside “wellness centers” that charge high monthly fees, our visits are typically covered by insurance since they take place within your primary care setting.
Our approach combines medical expertise, evidence-based treatment, and long-term support, so you can achieve real, sustainable results.
Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our weight loss services.
GLP-1 medications (like Wegovy® or Zepbound™) are prescription treatments that support weight loss by reducing appetite, improving portion control, and helping regulate blood sugar.
When prescribed and monitored by a physician, these medications are considered safe. Your provider will review potential side effects and make sure treatment is right for you.
In many cases, yes. Because your visits occur within your primary care office, they are billed through insurance.
Medication coverage varies by insurance plan. First, we recommend checking with your provider to confirm whether your plan includes prescription weight loss medications. Then, it’s important to ask your insurance if weight loss medication is covered.
Yes, all FFPC family physicians are trained to manage obesity. Some offices also have board-certified Obesity Medicine specialists and structured programs such as Ideal Protein.
Both approaches can be effective. Your physician will help determine whether medication, a nutrition-based program, or a combination best fits your needs.
Ideal Protein is a medically supervised, three-phase, ketogenic protocol that helps your body burn fat as its primary energy source. Participants receive one-on-one support from FFPC certified coaches, like Kathy Haggerty and Cindy Kim at our Family Medicine of Clifton/Centreville location, who guide patients toward long-term success and healthy lifestyle changes. (Note: Ideal Protein is typically not covered by insurance.)
Your provider will consider your health history, goals, and lifestyle to design a plan that’s safe, realistic, and personalized, whether that includes medications, nutrition programs, or both.
Our care is physician-led and integrated with your overall health. You’ll receive personalized support from board-certified family physicians, including ABOM-certified Obesity Medicine specialists, in a setting that prioritizes safety, affordability, and continuity of care.
Whether you’re interested in medication-assisted weight loss, nutrition programs like Ideal Protein, or lifestyle guidance, our practices offer the expertise and support you need to succeed.
Call your FFPC office directly to make an appointment, book an appointment online by logging into MyChart, or ask your primary care provider for a referral. Our team will help guide you through the process and check your insurance benefits.
